Experimental Studies on the Removal of Chromium from Tannery Wastewater using Chemical Precipitation and Adsorption Techniques

Despite trivalent chromium’s manifold functionalities in industrial manufacturing processes, when it is improperly treated and disposed to the environment, due external environmental factors could get converted hexavalent chromium that has toxic effects on humans our environment. Hence, there a stringent need optimize current practices of handling, management, disposal. This paper puts forth inferences from comparative studies conducted using chemical precipitation biochar adsorption ascertain if removal practice chrome tanning leather industry under study an optimal method or not. Results indicate achieving 86~90 % efficiency 2000 mg/L MgO at pH6 can be optimized by carrying out pH8 for 96~99% efficiency; combination NaOH Ca(OH)2 varying ratios resulted 80-96 pH7 ~99% all pH8, but sludge volumes were higher than twice generated precipitation; inactivated similar proportions precipitants did not yield encouraging results maximum was 73.2% 48000 dosage. Therefore, complete treatment tannery wastewater with biochar, residual supernatant should as effective treating lower concentrations chromium.
